Discussion and possible action to authorize Webb County Fire with the assistance of the Economic Development Department to develop and submit a U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FY 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant for up to $300,000.00, for new personal protective equipment to outfit 30 firefighting personnel, and 16 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with cylinders; and authorizing the County Judge to act as the Authorized Representative in all matters pertaining to the County's request for Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program funding and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. This application requires a five percent (5%) cash match should the application be funded, amount shall not exceed the sum of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000). All required documents were sent for review through the Economic Development Department and the solicitation is compliant with the Webb County Single Point of Contact (SPOC) procedures. Issue: Submission of Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application to benefit the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department through the acquisition of personal protective equipment for firefighters, and SCBA. 

Solution: The Economic Development Department will develop and submit the application on behalf of the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department.

Result: Well- equipped firefighters to respond safely to emergency incidents, and meet required standards.
Background:
AFG funding will be sought from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to assist the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with new personal protective equipment to outfit 30 firefighting personnel, and 16 SCBA with cylinders. The program period is for two (2) years during the FY 2021 funding cycle. The five percent (5%) cash match will be identified by budget officers if awarded.
