Discussion and possible action to authorize the Webb County Economic Development Department to submit a FY 2023 body worn camera grant application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance, in the amount of Eighteen Thousand Dollars ($18,000.00) in grant funds the implementation or expansion of body-worn camera and authorizing the Webb County Judge to sign all pertinent contract documentation. This grant requires a 50/50 cash match or an estimated amount of $9,000.00. All required documents were sent for review through the Economic Development and the solution is complying with Webb County Economic Development single point of contact (SPOC) procedures. Issue:
 To enhance agency transparency, to document encounters between police and the public, and to investigate and resolve complaints and officer-involved incidents.

Solution: Body Worn Cameras will reinforce trust and accountability between the police and the communities they serve.

Result: Body-worn cameras provide an audio and visual record of interactions that can capture evidence in the event of a crime, police-citizen interaction, or use-of-force incident.
