Hiring temporary Election Workers
Submitted for:
Melinda Mata
Submitted By:
Melinda Mata
Department:
County Judge
Subject:
Discussion with possible action to authorize the hiring of all temporary Election Workers through a temporary staffing agency provider and to further authorize the Purchasing Agent to solicit competitive proposals for the requested services pursuant to the Texas Local Government Code; §262.030 Alternative Competitive Proposal Procedure for Certain Goods and Services and any other matters incident thereto.
[Account #1001-1110-001-451201-005 (General Fund-Election Administration-Administration-Election Expense-Webb County)]
Issue:
The Elections Department hires hundreds of temporary Election Workers for short periods of time throughout the year through the Webb County employee hiring process (see below). Hiring through Webb County requires numerous steps and manual processes which may reduce efficiencies and increase liabilities. Although temporary staffing agencies charge a mark-up for services, in analyzing costs, the potential additional costs may be justifiable compared to the current practice in place.
