Discussion and possible action to authorize the purchase of Fuses/Axon Hardware for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office in an amount not to exceed $134,900 and to further authorize under the Texas Local Government Code; Section 262.024 (7) (A) discretionary exemption items for which competition is precluded because of the existence of patents, copyrights, proprietary processes or monopolies and any other matters incident thereto. Issue: Border security and the real time crime center need expansion capacity to fully develop the FUSUS/AXON system capabilities. The FUSUS system manages the real time crime center and border security assets. Urban and rural areas of Webb County would benefit from enhancements to increase coverage, storage and capability. Vast geographical areas coupled with different platforms for the management of remote camera assets pose a challenge to effective and streamlined operations.
FUSUS is both a sole source and a patented proprietary system, FUSUS/AXON Hardware are only available from FUSUS/AXON there are no third party vendors.

Solution: Operation LONE STAR allows for the purchase of equipment for $134,900.00 from FUSUS/AXON that augments border security efforts. The purchase of FUSUS hardware to expand the capabilities of the real time crime center/ border security operations center are needed. The purchase would allow for further development and enhancement of public safety projects in Webb County, and of our current assets and data in our current system.

Result: The public safety enhancements made by purchase of AXON/FUSUS hardware through Operation LONE STAR will greatly benefit Webb County Law Enforcement efforts by allowing a common operating picture for multiple asset types and multiple data types into one system.
