Discussion and possible action to authorize the modification of the job descriptions for the following slots:

Issue: As articulated by members of the Webb County Commissioners’ Court and other Webb County officials at the court meeting held on September 26, 2016, certain modifications are needed to the job descriptions developed by the Condrey and Associates, Inc. Specifically, it was articulated at the meeting that many applicants for maintenance positions were highly skilled and experienced, but did not meet certain criteria set by the job descriptions written by Condrey and Associates, Inc. and, thus, were not eligible for employment for these low-paying positions. This made it difficult to fill these positions and/or retain personnel in these low-paying positions.

Solution: Approve the modification of these afore-mentioned job descriptions so that a larger pool of skilled and experienced personnel may be eligible to apply for these types of positions.

Result: A modified job description with more suitable employment screening criteria for these types of jobs will allow for more qualified applicants to be considered for employment at the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

Background:

The Webb County Civil Service Commission approved the same type of modification of another slot (Slot # 0569) titled “Maintenance Technician” on September 29, 2016.

Previous Court Action:

The Webb County Commissioners’ Court authorized the same type of modification of another slot (Slot # 0569) titled “Maintenance Technician” on September 26, 2016.
