Repairs to the Administration Building Automatic Doors

Discussion and possible action to request estimates for the repair of the Administration Building automatic doors, identify a funding source, and direct the Building Maintenance Department to manage the project; and any other matters incident thereto. Total amount of project shall not exceed $14,570.00 for complete overhaul of operators to three sets of doors. Repairs are highly recommended by the Safety Committee. Issue: The Risk Management Department has received multiple complaints regarding the malfunctioning automatic doors at the Administration Building. Although several attempts have been made by the Building Maintenance Department, the doors need major repairs by specialized technicians.

Solution: It is the Safety Committee's recommendation to have the doors repaired and provide long-term improvement to their function in order to provide adequate access to people with access and functional needs and a safe entrance and egress to the building.

Result: Adequate repairs to the Administration Building doors will provide for safe entrance and egress to the building and appropriate acceptability for people with access and functional needs.

Background:

The Safety Committee has discussed the issue regarding the Administration Building automatic door malfunctions for more than a year and worked with the Building Maintenance Department in attempting to find solutions to the deficiencies. Although the Building Maintenance department has made multiple attempts to repair the doors by replacing parts and repairing electrical issues, it has been determined that the door repairs require specialized technician services.
