Discussion and possible action to authorize the development and submission of a 2017 Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in an amount not to exceed $250,000.00 in grant funds for the construction of a park in colonia La Presa on county owned non-parkland located adjacent to the Mangana-Hein Road; and authorizing the County Judge to act as the County's Executive Officer and Authorized Representative in all matters pertaining to the County's participation in the 2017 TPWD Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation Grant Program. This grant application will require a cash match of $135,000 and an in-kind match of $115,000.Total project cost is up to $500,000. Issue: Colonia La Presa and the surrounding rural areas do not have sufficient recreational facilities. Residents of Colonia La Presa must travel a significant distance to enjoy outdoor recreational activities.

Solution: Webb County proposes to construct a park and natural area in colonia La Presa on County owned non-parkland located adjacent to the Mangana-Hein Road.

Result: Webb County proposes to apply for a 2017 Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation Grant application to construct a park and natural area in colonia La Presa on County owned non-parkland located adjacent to the Mangana-Hein Road.

Background:

The proposed colonia La Presa park project will address the priority Precinct #1 project as identified in the 2015 - 2025 Webb County Recreational Master Plan.
