Discussion and possible action to approve a title change and job discription modification to slot #2091, from Pre-Trial Services Investigator 17/Y to Pre-Trial Services Supervisor 17/A, subject to the availability of payroll funds and any applicable civil service guidelines. If approved, the slot would be posted within the department for possible filling. Any further vacant slots resulting from this posting will be filled accordingly.

Issue: The slot became vacant on 01/07/2019. Our department has been understaffed since new programs in the past few years to the judicial process have been initiated. Having this slot vacant may hinder our departmental goals and productivity. It has been determined, within the past few years, through observations and logistical practices that our office does not require any staff member to hold peace officer license. The sheriffs office, Webb County Justice Center security personnel and the court bailiffs have been working with our office cooperatively when we require assistance to detain a defendant. Our office would improve its organization, if a supervisor is appointed/hired to assist the director coordinating the day-to-day operations.

Solution: Title and job discription modification as well as posting and fill the vacant slot would benefit the county as well as the department.

Result: Approving the title change and job discription and filling the slot will allow the department to continue to operate with a full staff. We will also have a greater opprotunity to meet the departmental goals and help improve its organization. The county and department will benefit financially by reducing its payroll costs to this slot.
