Pueblo Nuevo Street Improvement Project - Authorization to solicit for Bids

Subject:
Discussion and possible action to authorize the Purchasing Agent to advertise for formal bids for the Pueblo Nuevo Street Improvement Project in accordance with the Texas Local Government Code, Sub-Chapter C. (Competitive Bidding in General) and Section 262.027 (Awarding of Contract). [Requested by James Flores, Economic Development Director; TXCDBG Grant Account #7217491]

Issue: 
Colonia Pueblo Nuevo has streets that are dilapidated and unpaved, causing a potential threat to public safety and creating an impasse during inclement weather.

Solution: Secure Commissioners Court authorization for the solicitation of bids so reconstruction of the affected area may be scheduled.

Result: 
The roadway improvements shall alleviate hazards to public safety and provide access for colonia residents.
Background:

The County of Webb shall reconstruct (paving) the following street blocks: West Ibarra Street (from Main Street to the end of West Ibarra Street), West Maria Elena Street (from Main Street to the end of West Maria Elena Street) and West Mendoza Street (from Main Street to the end of West Mendoza Street) for  an aggregate of approximately four thousand (4,000) linear feet utilizing 30 ft. wide, six-inch caliche base and two-inch HMAC.  The project’s completion also require the relocation of eleven (11) utility poles, five (5) on West Mendoza Street and six (6) on West Ibarra Street.  The improved roadway conditions will benefit low-income residents in Colonia Pueblo Nuevo in Webb County, Texas.  The project estimated completion date is November 2019.

 

Previous Court Action:
Commissioners Court approved the acceptance of the Texas Community Development Program (TCDP) contract #7217491 from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) in the amount of Two Hundred Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars ($275,000) for roadway improvements in Colonia Pueblo Nuevo.  Approved January 8, 2018: item #27.
