Discussion and possible action to authorize the purchase of a contraband detector (density meter) in the amount of $6,499 and a fiber optic scope in the amount of $9,517.26 for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office to be reimbursed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS); and authorizing the Webb County Judge to sign all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. [Account #2920-3010-001-470000 (Capital Outlay)]

Issue: The Department of Homeland Security secured funding for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office for the purchase of a fiber optic scope and density meter, but requires that Webb County purchase the equipment before they reimburse the total cost of this equipment.

Solution: Seek authorization from the court for the purchase of this equipment in a speedy and timely manner.

Result: The Webb County Sheriff’s Office personnel will be provided with specialized equipment at no cost to Webb County.

Background:

The Department of Homeland Security recommends that the purchase be completed as soon as possible.

Financial Impact:
