Discussion and possible action to authorize the Human Resources department to advertise for the position Webb County Chief Medical Examiner; to become available on January 1, 2022; with additional action to authorize a proposed salary for position of Chief Medical Examiner and Deputy Medical Examiner; and any other matters incident thereto.

Issue: Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Corinne Stern is expected to retire on December 31, 2021. There is a current county job posting for a Deputy Medical Examiner and we have not received qualified applicants.

Solution: Time is of the essence in soliciting requests for another Chief Medical Examiner. An increased salary for both positions should be considered for next fiscal year in an effort to attract more qualified candidates.

Result: Filling both Medical Examiner positions with qualified candidates.
