Jail repaires to Kitchen, generator and gate motors/access - bond 2010

Discussion and possible action to approve expenditures not to exceed $44,752.00 for removal, disposal and refinishing of the Webb County Jail Kitchen area covering approximately 4,900 square feet, repairs to the Jail generator and repairs to the Jail gate control boxes located at both entrance and exit to County Jail, subject to the Webb County Purchasing Rules and Regulations and issuance of an official Purchase Order. [Requested by Sheriff Martin Cuellar, Bond Series 2010 Account #3050-7380-001-470000 (Capital Outlay)]

Issue: The Sheriff’s Office has reported multiple repairs that require immediate attention. Specifically areas dealing with the County Jail. Funding for these repairs are not budgeted under the general fund.

Solution: Utilize Bond Series funding from 2010. A residual amount is available from Jail improvement funds approved as part of the 2010 Bond Series. Funding should be utilize to help close out the bond series and to make the necessary repairs at Jail.

Result: Secure informal quotes in accordance with the Policy manual and authorize needed repairs to Jail.

Background:

The kitchen floor has been an ongoing problem due to tile adhesive coming apart and not holding tile in place. It is recommended by the Texas Commission Inspector that we remove tile and spray concrete floor with a finishing coat for a smoother and cleaner finish. This would eliminate the need to re-tile and cut down on costs and daily maintenance of kitchen floor.
