Discussion and possible action to authorize the Economic Development Department to develop and submit a U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Assistance to Firefighters Grant for up to $250,000.00, and authorizing the County Judge to act as the Authorized Representative in all matters pertaining to the County's request for Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program funding. This application requires a five percent (5%) cash match should the application be funded, amount shall not exceed the sum of TWELVE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($12,500).

Issue: Submission of Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application to benefit the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department through the acquisition of a large brush truck to serve the northwest area of Webb County.

Solution: The Economic Development Department will develop and submit the application on behalf of the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department.

Result: Well- equipped firefighters to respond safely and promptly to incidents.

Background:

AFG funding will be sought from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to assist the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with a new vehicle. The program period is for one (1) year during the FY 2017 funding cycle. The five percent (5%) cash match will be identified by budget officers if awarded.
