Criminal Justice Enhancements Grant Authorization Request by the Webb Co Sheriff's Office

Discussion and possible action to authorize the submission of a Criminal Justice grant application as developed, written, and submitted by the Webb County Sheriff's Office Grant Writer to the Office of the Governor Criminal Justice Division and in the amount estimated at $35,000 for equipment, minor tools, supplies, and training/education for the Webb County Sheriff's Office Code Enforcement Unit; and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. This grant does not require any type of match; and, thus will have no impact to the general fund. All required documents were sent for review through the Economic Development Department and the solicitation is compliant with the Webb County Single Point of Contact (SPOC) procedures. Issue: Like other local law enforcement agencies, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office utilizes limited financial, operational, and manpower resources to grapple with, deter, mitigate, and/or resolve various serious criminal justice matters that stem from a confluence of deeply rooted, difficult, and often highly complex societal problems.

Solution: Grant application to provide supplemental resources for equipment, minor tools, and supplies in support of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

Result: Grant funding will allow members of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office be equipped with supplemental resources.
