2017-2018 Texas Veterans Commission General Assistance Grants

Subject:

Discussion and possible action to authorize the Economic Development Department to develop and submit a General Assistance Grant application to the Texas Veterans Commission on behalf of the Veterans Service Office in the amount of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) for the purpose of addressing the transportation needs of Webb County Veterans (and their eligible dependents); and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. There will be no impact to the General Fund.

Issue: Many Webb County Veterans (and dependents) do not have transportation means.

Solution: A transportation program implemented by the Webb County Veterans Service Office will aid in addressing the transportation issues faced by many local Veterans.

Result: The development and submission of a General Assistance Grant application to the Texas Veterans Commission for a transportation program.

Background:

The Texas Veterans Commission is currently soliciting funds under the Fund for Veterans' Assistance 2017-2018 General Assistance Grants program. The proposed program will offer transportation services to Webb County Veterans and their eligible dependents during the one year program period. This action will have no impact on the County General Fund, and any activities or positions created under this program will terminate after the program period ends.
