Subject:

Discussion and possible action to approve the 2023 Formula Grant Indigent Defense Resolution and to authorize the Webb County Judge to sign all pertinent documents. The purpose of the grant is to develop and maintain quality, cost-effective defense system that meets the needs of local communities and the requirements of the constitution and state law. Webb County will be eligible to receive a portion of the funding. There is no negative impact to the general fund. The necessary documents have been submitted for review and approval to the Economic Development Department and to the Civil Legal Department. This solicitation is compliant with the Webb County Single Point of Contact procedures. [Requested by Cornell Mickley, Pre-Trial Services Director; Grant Revenue Account #1001-2280-001-330300]

Background:

Webb County has been applying snd receiving funding from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission for a number of years. At least from my 17 years tenure with this department. All funding received with be deposited into the general fund account.
