Discussion and possible action to authorize the Economic Development Department to develop a Fiscal Year 2014 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The purpose of the application is to assist the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department via the purchase of a brush truck for emergency response situations. This proposed action will require a Five percent (5%) cash match to be drawn from the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department’s budget; this amount shall not exceed the sum of NINE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($9,300.00).

Background:

AFG funding will be sought from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to furnish the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with a brush truck for emergency response situations. The program period is for one (1) year during the FY 2014 funding cycle. This grant will have no impact on the General Fund. The five percent (5%) cash match requirement will be leveraged the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department budget (acct. #629-2203-8801).
