FY2016 Assistance to Firefighters Grant

Discussion and possible action to authorize the Economic Development Department to develop a FY 2016 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application for a grant amount not to exceed Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The purpose of the application is to assist the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department through the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment. This proposed action will require a Five percent (5%) cash match. This amount shall not exceed the sum of ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS ($1,250.00).

Issue: Submission of Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application to benefit the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with the purchase of personal protective equipment.

Solution: The Economic Development Department will develop and submit the application on behalf of the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department.

Result: Replace worn equipment and comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1500 standards. Safe and well-equipped personnel.

Background:

AFG funding will be sought from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to equip the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with personal protective equipment. The program period is for one (1) year during the FY 2016 funding cycle. The five percent (5%0 cash match will be identified by budget officers if awarded.
