Discussion and possible action to approve a supplemental increase adjustment to Slot #427, effective February 09, 2015, in accordance with Chapter 59, Article 59.06 (d) (7) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure in the amount of $12,468.02 on an annual basis; this supplemental increase will continue annually but is contingent upon availability of State forfeiture funds. [State Forfeiture Fund #168]

The Sheriff may increase a salary, expense, or allowance for an employee of the law enforcement agency who is budgeted by the Commissioners Court if the Commissioners Court first approves the increase as stipulated under Chapter 59.06 (d)(7) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures.

Annual cost for adjustment:

Total adjustment on base salary -          $9,984.00
Total estimated fringe benefit cost  -        $2,484.02
Total increase cost -                                $12,468.02

Background:

The Sheriff may increase a salary, expense, or allowance for an employee of the law enforcement agency who is budgeted by the commissioners court if the Commissioners Court first approves the increase as stipulated under Chapter 59.06 (d)(7) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures.

Back in July of 2013 the Sheriff's Office submitted a study to Commissioners Court showing the disparities in pay between Sheriff Deputies and Laredo Police Officers. See attached report conducted during FY 2013 for more details.

Previous Court Action:

On July 22, 2013, Commissioners Court approved the supplemental pay from State forfeiture funds for Sheriff Command Staff under Chapter 59.06 (d)(7) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures.
