Credit Card for K9 Related Expenditures

Discussion and possible action to authorize the Webb County Sheriff’s Office to acquire One (1) additional credit card assigned exclusively for canine (K9) expenses related to routine office visits, nutrition, supplies, and emergency services and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents and any other matters incident thereto. [Account #001, 168, 170-2001-6706 (Canine Expenditures)]

Issue: Local Veterinarians are requesting payment for services on a more timely basis for office visits, emergency visits, supplies or other K9 related expenditures. The Sheriff’s Office is seeking approval to utilize a County credit card to obtain these professional services.

Solution: Seek approval to designate a credit card for K9 related expenditures, Sheriff’s staff will continue to use the existing procedures in place to document issuance of credit cards for authorize use and submit monthly general request for payments with credit card statement documentation to the County Auditor.

Result: Webb County Sheriff’s Office canines (K9s), who deliver important, highly valued, and enhanced law enforcement services, will be provided with the necessary medical services, immunizations, teeth cleanings, specially formulated foods, and other needed maintenance to continue to be healthy assets in order to serve the local communities and citizens of Webb County.

Background:

Due to the well-documented and publicized delays in payments by Webb County to numerous vendors, including local veterinary clinics, these specialized offices have been hesitant to continue to provide needed medical services to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office canines (K9s).
