Subject:

Discussion and possible action to authorize a Resolution requesting that the Texas Legislature fully fund the costs of Indigent Criminal Defense; and any other matters incident thereto. [Requested by Legislative Affairs Committee]

Issue: The Texas Legislature has failed to provide sufficient funding to offset the costs of the Fair
Defense Act and has shifted this cost to county taxpayers.

Solution: Request that the Texas Legislature fully fund the costs of Indigent Criminal Defense during its
current 85^th legislative session.

Result: Provide relief to Texas Counties who lack sufficient funds to be able to comply with requirements of the Fair Defense Act.
