Discussion with possible action to authorize the submission of FY 2024 Grants to Expand Substance Use Disorder Treatment Capacity in Adult and Family Drug Courts as developed, written, and submitted by and for the Webb County Veterans Treatment Court Program to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) in the amount of Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($400,000) and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. This grant does not require any match; therefore there is no impact on the general fund. All required documents were sent for review through the Economic Development Department and the solicitation is compliant with the Webb County Single Point of Contact (SPOC). Issue: SAMHSA has released a solicitation for FY 2024 for the expansion of SAMHSA Treatment Courts. The program's purpose is to expand substance-use disorder treatment and recovery support services in existing Specialty Courts, specifically the Veterans Treatment Program.

Solution: Authorize the submission of the multi-year grant application for the purpose of expanding treatment services for the next 5 years if awarded.

Result: If awarded, the Webb County Veterans Treatment Program will continue to provide substance-use disorder and mental health treatment and recovery support services to all eligible veterans in Webb County and surrounding areas.

Background:

The Veterans Treatment Program was awarded federal funding through SAMHSA for a period of 5 years from 2019-2024. The current grant cycle ends 05/30/2024.
