Discussion and possible action to approve the submission of a grant application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for a Fiscal Year 2014 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) for the reimbursement of the costs associated with undocumented criminal aliens incarcerated at the Webb County jail; and designating the Webb County Judge as the authorized official in all matters related to this grant; and any other matters incident thereto. This grant is a reimbursement of costs already incurred at the Webb County jail and thus does not require any cash match.

Background:

The State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) provides federal payments to states and localities that incurred correctional officer salary costs for incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens who have at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions for violations of state or local law, and who are incarcerated for at least 4 consecutive days during the reporting period.

Previous Court Action:

The submission and approval of this grant is authorized by the Webb County Commissioners’ Court on a yearly basis.
