Subject:

Discussion and possible action to authorize the Economic Development Department to develop a Fiscal Year 2015 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Application to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The purpose of the application is to supplement the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with additional frontline firefighters.

Issue: The Webb County Volunteer Fire Department is undermanned.

Solution: Seek funding opportunities that would allow for the expansion of the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department.

Result: A Department of Homeland Security grant can potentially fund the positions of frontline firefighters for Two (2) years.

Background:

SAFER funding will be sought from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to supplement the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with additional frontline firefighters. This is a two-year program period and will have no impact on the County General Fund.
