Discussion and possible action to proclaim April 2016 as the 48^th Anniversary of Fair Housing Month and April 11^th – 15^th 2016 as Fair Housing Week and continue to designate the Webb County Community Action Agency as the agency responsible for monitoring Fair Housing in Webb County.

Issue: In order to continue applying for grants, Webb County needs to promote Fair Housing in Webb County which is a grant requirement.

Solution: Promoting Fair Housing in Webb County and designating a week during the month of April will help citizens of Webb County know their legal rights in housing discrimination.

Result: The designation of the month of April as Fair Housing Month and the approval of the Fair Housing Resolution will satifsfy two (2) grant requirements under the Texas Community Development Grant Program.

Background:

Every year during the month of March, Webb County Commissioners Court approves a resolution proclaiming April as Fair Housing Month and designates a week in April as Fair Housing Week. Webb County advertises in the Laredo Morning Times to promote Fair Housing practices; the County encourages potential home owners and renters to be aware of their rights. Posters are displayed at the Webb County Courthouse and literature on Fair Housing is available at the Webb County Courthouse for the public in English and in Spanish.
