Laredo Dispenser Rate Increase 2019

Discussion and possible action to increase the water rate of the Five (5) water dispensers located within the City of Laredo water system and operated by Webb County from $0.50 per 150 gallons to $1.25 per 150 gallons; and, approving a Resolution and Order that all water dispensers within the City of Laredo limits, are to be used solely for domestic use and any commercial utilization of this water is strictly prohibited. [Requested by Leroy Medford, Commissioners Court Administrator]

Issue: Current dispenser rates are significant lower than the cost to provide the dispensed water service.

Solution: Increase rate to meet cost of service calculations.

Result: Continue to provide dispensed water service to Colonia residents for years to come.

Background:

The current cost of service to operate, maintain, and purchase water from the City of Laredo Water Utilities has been calculated to equal to $0.90 per 150 gallons dispensed. Currently, the County charges the dispenser service to our customers at a rate of $0.50 per 150 gallons.

Currently the Las Lomas (Colorado Acres) Water Dispenser maintains a rate that increased approximately 1 year ago of $1.25 per 150 gallons dispensed. It is a double-tiered system that is not available in the Laredo Dispensers that provided the first 500 gallons at the preliminary rate of $1.25 but increases to $3.50 per 150 gallons for any water purchased after the initial 500 gallons.
