Purchase of Bleachers

Discussion and possible action to authorize the purchase of seventeen (17) sets of bleachers at a cost of $2,000.00 per set and to not exceed a total purchase price of $34,000.00 from the Laredo Independent School District and in accordance with the Texas Government Code; Section 262.024 (Discretionary Exemptions)(7)(C.) by a political subdivision of the State and any other matters incident thereto.

Issue:
The Laredo Independent School District no longer has a need for the bleachers. Each set can accommodate up to 120-140 people. The District currently has 17 bleacher sets available for sale.
Solution:
Approve a discretionary exemption to the competitive bidding requirements of the State that require expenditures exceeding $50,000.00 between two (2) political subdivisions of the State. Although the expense will not exceed $50,000.00, the Court is requesting for the discretional exemption to be passed for transparency purposes.
Result:
Webb County will secure the property for future use at the Fairgrounds and other County events where it will be beneficial for public use.
