Discussion and possible action to authorize the disposal of jail law library books that are obsolete and have no value for the purpose for which it was originally intended in accordance with Sub Chapter D. Disposition of Salvage or Surplus Property, Section 263.151 and 263.152; and any other matters incident thereto.

Issue: Jail library books are over 10 years old. Since 2009, the law library information is available online to all Webb County inmates. The hard cover books are considered ‘salvage property’ because they are obsolete and are no longer needed by jail inmates and/or Sheriff's Office administration.

Solution: Ensure proper disposal of all jail law library books by securing approval from the Webb County Commissioners' Court prior to destruction/disposal.

Result: Dispose of salvage property in compliance with Texas Local Government Code requirements.

Background:

There are outdated library law books at the jail that are over 10 years old. Furthermore, legal information is available online to all inmates at the Webb County jail since 2009.
