Discussion and possible action to authorize the purchase of a Comapact Rapid Deployable Device (CRD) for a total not to exceed $77,995.00 from FIRSTNET (DIR Contract DIR-TELE-CTSA-002) for the Webb County Sheriff's Office and in accordance with the Texas Local Government Code; Sub-Chapter F. Cooperative Purchasing Program, §271.101, §271.102 (Cooperative Purchasing Program Participation) and any other matters incident thereto. [Account #2153-3010-001-470000 (Federal Forfeiture Funds)]

Issue: Critical communications are hindered during local emergencies, causing emergency responders to be unable to relay critical information to command posts and supervisors. Lack of communication during critical situations can be catastrophic. Civilian cellular phone use during emergency or critical incidents also congests the network (LTE/5G) which hinders our ability to communicate.

Solution: The Firstnet CRD (COW) will also provide cell service for local and rural areas during emergencies where no cell service exists.

Result: Webb County personnel will be able to communicate during critical incidents, natural disasters, or incidents where the cell network is down, enhancing public safety and security.
