SFRAC Funding for EMS

Subject:
Discussion and possible action to accept state tobacco funds provided through the Seven Flags Regional Advisory Council (RAC) Trauma Service Area "T" in the amount of $4,269.00, to be utilized in the purchase of EMS supplies, training, travel, personnel cost, membership to professional/technical organizations, public education, vehicle maintenance and equipment for both stations of the Webb County Volunteer Fire department, and authorizing the County judge to sign all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. [Accounts #1001-3140-001-458000; #1001-3140-001-441010 and #1001-3140-001-443000-075]

Issue: State funding provided through Seven Flags RAC for EMS needs/operations.

Solution: Accept funds, and utilize monies for purchase of EMS supplies, training, travel, and equipment and its maintenance.

Result: Properly stocked emergency units ready for response, and well prepared personnel.
Background:
Webb County Volunteer Fire Department is an active member of the Seven Flags Regional Advisory Council, pays yearly dues, participates in the Trauma Service Area Emergency Plan, and is active in trauma registry reporting for the service area.

The following are eligible expenses under the Tobacco grant program. They include but are not limited to:
 
a. Supplies/equipment and costs of personnel for education or prevention programs;
b. Costs of personnel, supplies and equipment to conduct trauma-related courses (Trauma Nursing Core Course, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, etc.);
c. Updating and printing the regional EMS/Trauma System Plan;
d. Education of the public or trauma care providers about the regional EMS/Trauma System Plan;
e. Expenditures or grants to entities related to the delivery of trauma patient care and/or expediting the implementation of the Texas EMS/Trauma System;
f. System Performance Improvement (PI) meetings, newsletters, regional registry, regional communication systems; and
g. Attending meetings/conferences related to EMS/Trauma Systems, personnel and travel for the above mentioned projects.
