Discussion and possible action to approve the submission of a grant application to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for a public safety grant to pay for equipment and supplies for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Triad Elder Service Program in the amount estimated at $13,251; and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. This grant does not require any type of match.
Issue: Perpetrators of criminal activities are more likely to target vulnerable individuals in order to commit crimes against these special populations, such as the elderly. Consequently, law enforcement agencies must take distinctive precautions and provide proactive measures to minimize victimization of older persons.
Solution: Grant application so that the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Community Affairs Division will be able to provide crime prevention information and tools to older citizens in the local Laredo/Webb County community.
Result: The Webb County Sheriff’s Office will be able to increase its proactive measures and enhance its delivery of law enforcement services to the elderly in order to assist this special population and to help prevent the criminal predation of elder citizens in the Laredo/Webb County community.
