Discussion and possible action to enter into an agreement with the Department of Defense (DOD) to allow the Webb County Sheriff's Department to apply for and accept surplus property, subject to Commissioners Court approval, deemed excess by the Secretary of Defense, from the Department of Defense (“DOD”) and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. There is no monetary match required and therefore no impact to the general fund.

Issue: The Secretary of Defense is authorized by 10 USC §2576a to transfer to State Law Enforcement Agencies, surplus personal property that is suitable for use by law enforcement agencies.

Solution: The Governor of the State of Texas has, designated in writing, an effective date of May 24, 2024, to implement this agreement.

Result: Webb County may receive excess property from the DOD, suitable for law enforcement purposes, that will reduce the cost of obtaining such equipment through the use of Webb County taxpayer funds.
