Texas Veterans Commission Fund For Veterans Assistance

Discussion and possible action to authorize the development and submission of a Series XV-A Fund for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) General Assistance Grant application to the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) in an amount to be determined at a later time for the purpose of extending current transportation services offered to Webb County veterans and their families. This action will have no immediate impact on the County General Fund for the duration of the grant, should it be funded. However, since this is a one year grant, future costs, would require the Commissioner's Court approval and be from the County's General Fund

Background:

This funding will extend the current transportation services offered to eligible Webb County veterans and their families to include out-of-town transportation to VA hospitals and clinics in areas such as Harlingen, Corpus Christi, McAllen and San Antonio. Though not required, an in-kind match of ten percent (10%) will be provided in the form of administration services.

Previous Court Action:

The Webb County Commissioner's Court approved a similar item in 2013. The project was funded and is an on-going service provided to Webb County Veterans.
