Discussion and possible action to authorize the development and submission of a Texas Community Development Block Grant application to the Texas Department of Agriculture for the Community Enhancement Fund in an amount not to exceed $350,000.00 for the construction of a Fire Sub-Station; and authorizing the County Judge to act as the County's Executive Officer and Authorized Representative in all matters pertaining to the County's participation in the Community Enhancement Fund. This grant application will have a cash match not to exceed $35,000 (or 10%) and will not impact the Webb County General Fund. The cash match will be contributed from 2013 Bond Series Account #740-0204-8801.

Background:

Grant funds are being sought from the Texas Department of Agriculture - Community Enhancement Fund for the construction of a new Fire Sub-Station for the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department.

Issue: The Webb County Volunteer Fire Department must expand in order to enhance its existing services and improve response time to meet the needs of the public’s safety.

Solution: The construction of a Fire Sub-Station in the Los Botines area of northern Webb, which grants access to several major highways and thoroughfares, would enhance services and improve response time to meet the needs of the public’s safety.

Result: The development and submission of a Community Enhancement Fund application to the Texas Department of Agriculture for the construction of a Fire Sub-Station in Los Botines to enhance services and improve response time to meet the needs of the public’s safety.
