Request for Purchase of X-Ray Machines Maintenance Agreements

Discussion and possible action to approve the purchase of maintenance agreements from Smiths Detection for the maintenance of Two (2) X-ray machines Model Number HI-SCAN 6040ds (Serial Numbers 83400 and 83399) located at the Webb County Justice Building in the amount of $8,514 for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office; and any other matters incident thereto. [Account #605-3001-8801-7 (Capital Outlay Contingency Fund)]

Issue: One of the X-rays is out of order and another requires needed on-going maintenance. The Webb County Sheriff’s Office feels that the maintenance of the X-rays at the Justice Center is a significant safety and security issue not only for the District Courts/County Court at Law Offices, District Attorney’s Office, District/County Clerk’s Offices, Adult Probation, and other Webb County Departments/Offices located in the Justice Center, but for the citizens and taxpayers who utilize this building frequently.

Solution: Payment of require maintenance agreements for the X-ray machines through the capital outlay funds.

Result: X-ray machines will be maintained and remain in proper working order so that the elected officials and the employees of the District Courts/County Court at Law Offices, District Attorney’s Office, District/County Clerk’s Offices, Adult Probation, other Webb County Departments/Offices located in the Justice Center, and Webb County citizens/taxpayers who utilize this building frequently may remain safe through the needed screening completed with the use of aforementioned security equipment.

Background:

This capital outlay request was submitted to the Webb County Purchasing Department in mid-April 2016, and the Capital Outlay Committee first reviewed it on June 8, 2016.

$8,514 Capital Outlay Through the purchase of these maintenance agreements, Webb County will protect the initial investment made on the purchase of X-ray machines for the continued safety of the numerous elected officials, employees, and citizens who frequent this building and, furthermore, prevent possible, grievous liability issues should any deadly/dangerous incident occur at the Webb County Justice Center.
