Discussion and possible action to continue paying grant funded personnel under Criminal Justice Division (CJD) Grant No. 2466304, Webb County Border Prosecution Unit Grant, for Thirty (30) days, until notification about grant continuation award from the Homeland Security Grants Division of the Governor's Office.

Issue: Current grant funding expires after September 30, 2015. The District Attorney’s Office has not received notice of award for new grant. Unless this item is approved, employees working under said grant will not be paid after September 30, 2015.

Solution: Grant a 30 day payroll extension for employees working under this grant.

Result: The District Attorney’s Office will be able to continue its border crime prosecution.

Background:

The District Attorney's Office utilizes this grant to keep improving the quality of prosecutions specifically in the area of organized crime/criminal enterprise cases. This grant is continuation of the current existing grant. The grant pays for the following 2 personnel positions:

Border Prosecutor
Regional Counsel
