Discussion and possible action to accept the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) year 3 of a 3-year Grant Award for Veterans Treatment Courts for the budget period of September 30, 2018 thru September 29, 2019 in the amount of $325,000 for the 406th Judicial District Court's Veterans Treatment Program which will continue to enhance the services currently being provided, and authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents, and any other matters incident thereto. All required documents were sent to the Economic Development Department for review and the award documentation is compliant with the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) policy. [Grant Fund #2352]

Issue: The SAMHSA Grant is a federal grant that supports Veterans Treatment Courts in order to address the needs of veteran participants and their families. This grant will provide continuing resources to assist with the current provisions and other regional services necessary.

Solution: Securing the year 3 funding through grant awards to enable continuance of services to veterans in the 406th District Court's Veterans Treatment Program and regional services.

Result: Justice System involved veterans in the 406th Judicial District Court's Veterans Treatment Program as the South Texas Regional Program will continue to be provided with services that address their mental health and substance use disorders.

Background:

This grant is awarded from the Department of Human and Health Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Previous Court Action:

The Webb County Commissioners' Court approved and authorized the establisment of a Veterans Treatment Program and authorized the 406th District Court as one of the courts to implement the program.
