Texas Parks and Wildlife 2018 Non Urban Outdoor Application

Discussion and possible action to authorize the Webb County Economic Development Department to develop and submit a 2018 Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in an amount not to exceed $250,000.00 each in grant funds for the construction of an aquatic recreation activity (splash pads) in Bruni near the Bruni Community Center and in Rio Bravo, near the Rio Bravo Community Center; and authorizing the County Judge to act as the County's Executive Officer and Authorized Representative in all matters pertaining to the County's participation in the 2018 TPWD Local Parks Non-Urban outdoor Recreation Grant Program. This application will require a 50% cash match of $250,000.00. Total project cost is up to $500,000.00.

Issue: Colonia Bruni, Rio Bravo, and surrounding rural areas do not have sufficient recreational facilities. Residents of Colonia Bruni, quad cities, Rio Bravo and El Cenizo must travel a significant distance to enjoy aquatic outdoor recreational activities.

Solution: Webb County proposes to construct a first time aquatic recreational activity (splash pad) in colonia Bruni, Rio Bravo and rural surrounding areas.

Result: Webb County proposed to apply for a 2018 Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation Grant throug the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department application to construct two splash pads near the Bruni Community Center and Rio Bravo Community Center.

Background:
