Webb County Sheriff’s Safe Haven Program lease extension with McPherson Plaza Ltd.

Subject:
Discussion and possible action to enter into a one (1) year (October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023) lease extension of a Lease Agreement between Webb County and McPherson Plaza Ltd. involving lease space of approximately 3000 square feet of building space located at 5711 McPherson Road for the purpose of housing the Webb County Sheriff’s Safe Haven Program at monthly rental fee of SIX THOUSAND FIFTEEN DOLLARS THIRTY CENTS ($6,015.30) for a total cost under the one year lease extension of SEVENTY-TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-THREE DOLLARS SIXTY CENTS ($72,183.60) over the term of the extension and authorizing the County Judge to execute all relevant documents, and any matters incident thereto. [Requested by Webb County Sheriff, DOJ Grant #2018-FJ-AX-007; Account #2607-1150-001-444100 (Space Rental OVW Justice for Families Program)]

Issue: Sheriff Department needs the lease space in order to meet the Grant lease space requirements for their Safe Haven Program. Current lease is to expire September 30, 2022.
 
Solution: Execute the lease extension agreement in order to continue operations of the Safe Haven Program.
 
Result: Allows the Sheriff Department to continue to operate the Safe Haven Program, where the facility provides a safe environment for visitation for custodial and non-custodial clients.
Background:
 On January 13, 2020, Webb County entered into a one-year lease agreement at the current location to operate the Safe Haven Program. Under the Lease Agreement, the Sheriff exercised its option to extend the lease for a second year which is set to expire September 30, 2022. Sheriff needs to still leas the location for another one-year term.
 
Previous Court Action:
 June 28, 2021, the Commissioners Court authorized a one year extension of the Safe Haven Program Lease with McPherson Plaza, Limited.
