Let it be remembered that a regular meeting of the Webb County Commissioners Court was held at 9:00 a.m. at the regular meeting place with the following members present to wit:

Thus constituting a quorum, the Commissioners Court proceeded to act upon the Agenda as posted in the meeting notice of the 7th day of November 2014. Present also were Ms. Virginia Martinez, Deputy County Clerk representing Mrs. Margie Ramirez Ibarra, Ex-officio Clerk of the Commissioners Court, various officers and others interested in the business of the Court.

5. Communications

Cmr. Canales welcomed everyone present and wished all veterans a Happy Veterans Day. He sent his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of Roberto Vargas, Gloria Zuniga, Longino Heriberto Espinoza, Elda Ana Martinez, Alfredo Pena, and Sylvia Alviso. Cmr. Canales wished a very Happy Birthday to Cmr. John Galo. He congratulated the UISD Drug Free Dance Crew for receiving 1st place at the Annual Drug Awareness Concert. Cmr. Canales congratulated the students of Sabas Perez Magnet School and the Engineer and Technology Applications at Cigarroa High School for competing at the Rio Grande Valley Boosting Engineering Science and Technology Robotics Competition. He congratulated Martin High School for their win against Nixon High School. Cmr. Canales congratulated Nixon High School running back, Rene Alvarado for being named Pro 8 News Academy Sports and Outdoors Player of the Week. Cmr. Canales thanked Lamar Middle School for inviting him to speak on Career Day. He congratulated the Alexander and United High School Girls Volleyball Team for the kickoff of the 2014 6A Volleyball State Playoffs. Cmr. Canales congratulated the Alexander Bulldogs for their win last week in football.

Cmr. Galo welcomed all veterans present and wished them a Happy Veterans Day. He congratulated Mr. Amador Hinojosa, Jr. for receiving a certificate of recognition. Cmr. Galo congratulated Sheriff Martin Cuellar and his staff for hosting the Fall Hourly Crime Prevention Fair. He encouraged everyone to volunteer at the upcoming H-E-B Feast of Sharing. Cmr. Galo congratulated the Sports Medicine Clinic with Dr. John Puig and Dr. Miguel Solis on the ribbon cutting ceremony of their new location. He congratulated all the candidates that won and ran on this past election. Cmr. Galo also congratulated all the voters and encouraged them to go out and vote again on the upcoming run-offs. He congratulated former Alexander High School football player and constituent Ricky Villarreal for receiving National Honors last week on his first collegiate game as a registered falcon. Cmr. Galo congratulated the Alexander High School Football Team on their win over United High School. He also congratulated the Martin High School Football Team on their win over Nixon High School. Cmr. Galo congratulated Alexander and United Cross-Country Team duo Blanca Martinez and Pedro Sepulveda who made it to State competition in Round Rock. He mentioned that there was a new frisbee golf course open on North Central Park. Cmr. Galo sent out his heartfelt condolences to the families of Pedro Saenz, Sr., Armando Talamantes, Alfredo Guevara, Sr., Elizabeth Chavana, and Gloria Zuniga.

Cmr. Tijerina wished a very Happy Birthday to Cmr. Galo. She wished all veterans a very Happy Veterans Day and thanked them all for their service. Cmr. Tijeria thanked the Larga Vista Community Center staff for participation and collaboration with Blessings in a Backpack. She congratulated all elected and newly elected officials and wished good luck to all of those going into run-offs. Cmr. Tijerina mentioned that the 5th Annual Environmental Summit was held on Thursday, November 6 at TAMIU. She thanked Mr. Jose Francisco Martinez from the Universidad del Norte de Tamaulipas for inviting her to receive the torch from the Guadalupana Torch Race. Cmr. Tijerina thanked H-E-B on their very successful Feast of Sharing event. She thanked Texas A&M University School of Nursing for their contribution of the 2014 Keeping our People Warm Blanket Drive. Cmr. Tijerina reminded all Larga Vista Head Start parents to register their Head Start students for the Annual Shoe Box Christmas Toy Giveaway. She sent out her heartfelt condolences to the families of Armando Talamantes, Elizabeth Ann Leyendecker Gault, Alberto Luis Lira, Gloria Zuniga, Longino Espinoza, Alfredo Guevara, Pete Saenz, Sr., and Gilberto Arredondo.

Cmr. Ramirez wished all veterans a Happy Veterans Day. She congratulated and thanked all veterans for serving our country. Cmr. Ramirez mentioned that the Texas Department of State Health Services will be hosting immunization clinics in Precinct 1, El Cenizo on Thursday, November 13 at 10 a.m. and at Mirando City, E. J. Salinas Community Center on Thursday, November 20 at 3:30 p.m. She thanked everyone who helped make the Mirando Substation grand opening a success. Cmr. Ramirez also wished a very Happy Birthday to Cmr. Galo.

Judge Valdez wished a very Happy Birthday to Cmr. Galo. He wished all veterans a very Happy Veterans Day. Judge Valdez asked all veterans to stand to be recognized. He congratulated all newly elected officials. Judge Valdez congratulated Cmr. Tijerina on the 5th Annual Environmental Summit. He congratulated Cmr. Ramirez on the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Sheriff and Constables Substation in Mirando. Judge Valdez sent out his heartfelt condolences to the families of Chief Pete Arredondo and Pete Saenz. He congratulated the Martin High School Football Team for their victory over Nixon High School.
