Official Minutes for Webb County Commissioners Court Special Meeting Monday, March 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM (Approved April 10, 2017)
Let it be remembered that a special meeting of the Webb County Commissioners Court was held at 1:00 p.m. at the regular meeting place with the following members present to wit: Tano E. Tijerina, County Judge Jesse Gonzalez, Commissioner, Pct. 1 Rosaura "Wawi" Tijerina, Commissioner, Pct. 2 John C. Galo, Commissioner, Pct. 3 Jaime Alberto Canales, Commissioner, Pct. 4 Thus constituting a quorum, the Commissioners Court proceeded to act upon the Agenda as posted in the meeting notice of the 17th day of March 2017. Present also were Mrs. Virginia M. Rodriguez, Deputy County Clerk representing Mrs. Margie Ramirez Ibarra, Ex-officio Clerk of the Commissioners Court, various officers and others interested in the business of the Court.

Pledge of Allegiance

Public Comment - This section provides the public the opportunity to address the Commissioners Court on any items on the Agenda. Members of the public wishing to participate must complete a Witness Card specifying which agenda item they wish to comment on. Each public member, individually or in a group, will be allowed a total of Three (3) minutes within which to make any/all public comments.

1) Mr. Nathan Henry Chu spoke in regards to item #4.

COURT TO DISCUSS AND ACT ON THE FOLLOWING:

Judge Tijerina stated that Mr. Juan Ramon Flores withdrew his name from the interview process.

Motion by Commissioner, Pct. 2 Rosaura “Wawi” Tijerina, seconded by County Judge Tano E. Tijerina to go to Executive Session on item #4

Vote: 5 - 0 Motion Carried

(Executive Session 1:07 - 1:15 p.m.)

No action taken.

Motion by Commissioner, Pct. 3 John C. Galo, seconded by Commissioner, Pct. 2 Rosaura “Wawi” Tijerina to keep Mr. Ron Carr as sitting current judge all the way up to election time

Vote: 2 - 3 Motion Failed

Commissioners Court

AI-5616 Discussion and possible action to interview and potentially select a candidate for the Webb County Court at Law #2 position from the final list of qualified applicants, to fill the unexpired term of Jesus Garza, who resigned from office on January 25, 2017; and any other matters incident thereto. [Executive Session may be requested pursuant to Texas Government Code Title 5, Subchapter D, Sections 551.071 (Consultation with attorney) and 551.074 (Personnel matters)] [Requested by the Merit Selection Committee]

The Commissioners Court interviewed the candidates for the Webb County Court at Law #2 position in the order as follows:

1) Kelly Fitzgerald
2) Melissa Joy Garcia
3) Maricela Jacaman

5) Victor Villarreal

(Recess 4:20 - 4:30 p.m.)

Motion by County Judge Tano E. Tijerina, seconded by Commissioner, Pct. 1 Jesse Gonzalez to appoint somebody for next Monday's Commissioners Court regular meeting

Vote: 5 - 0 Motion Carried
