Discussion and possible action to authorize the submission of a Smart Prosecution – Innovative Prosecution Solutions Competitive Grant Solicitation application to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs in the amount estimated at $385,000 to establish, and/or expand programming that enhances prosecutors’ ability to effectively and sustainably prevent and respond to crime, and authorizing the County Judge to execute all relevant documents; and any other matters incident thereto. This grant does not require any match; and, thus shall have no impact to the general fund. All required documents were sent for review through the Economic Development Department and the solicitation is compliant with the Webb County Single Point of Contact (SPOC) procedures. Issue: There is a need for additional resources to enhance the ability of prosecutors to effectively and sustainably respond to ongoing crime, especially violent crime, and to foster innovative and effective collaborations with external agencies to increase public safety.
Solution: Through this proposed grant application, the District Attorney’s Office will be able to obtain supplemental resources to enhance the ability of prosecutors to effectively and sustainably respond to ongoing crime, especially violent crime, and to foster innovative and effective collaborations with external agencies to increase public safety.
Result: The District Attorney’s Office will have additional resources to help serve and protect the local community while effectively responding to ongoing crime.
Background:
The District Attorney’s Office has been working in close tandem with other local governmental agencies to respond to ongoing crime in the community. The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs (OJP) has provided an opportunity to obtain additional resources through the Smart Prosecution – Innovative Prosecution Solutions Competitive Grant Solicitation application.
