State Forfeitures Budget Appropriation for Professional Services

Discussion and possible action to approve a budget appropriation to the Sheriff's Office State Forfeiture fund by increasing the expenditure budget by $12,762.28 for professional services; and any other matters incident thereto. This amount is available from seized funds pursuant to Chapter 59 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. [Fund #168 (State Forfeiture)]
Issue: Anticipated professional services has not yet been budgeted.
Solution: Appropriate available state forfeiture funds to cover anticipated professional services financial commitments.
Result: Utilize forfeiture funds for needed law enforcement purposes and pursuant to Chapter 59 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. All forfeiture budgets should be used only as a supplement source and not to supplant current budgets approved through the General fund or other non-forfeiture sources.
Background:
The Webb County Sheriff's Office would like to utilize these funds for official use. Proceeds awarded under Chapter 59 may be utilized by the Sheriff's Office after a budget for the expenditures of the proceeds has been submitted to the Webb County Commissioners' Court.
Previous Court Action:
In accordance with the Texas Local Government Code, previous budget appropriations have been approved by Commissioners Court for forfeiture funds.
