Discussion and possible action to authorize the Economic Development Department to develop a FY 2016 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application for a grant amount not to exceed fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The purpose of the application is to assist the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department through the acquisition of training for fire personnel. This proposed action will require a five percent (5%) cash match. This amount shall not exceed the sum of TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($2,500.00).
Issue: Submission of Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application to benefit the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department through the acquisition of training for fire personnel.
Solution: The Economic Development Department will develop and submit the application on behalf of the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department.
Result: Firefighters will be provided with hands-on skills training. This will assist Webb County Fire to motivate and retain volunteers, as well as have a safe incident scene and well trained personnel.
Background:
AFG funding will be sought form the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to assist the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department with training. The program period is for one (1) year during the FY 2016 funding cycle. The five percent (5%) cash match will be identified by budget officers if awarded.
