Issue: The current retail energy contract with Reliant Energy expires December 31, 2018.
Solution:Authorize the Purchasing Agent to secure formal proposals from retail energy providers.
Result:Score proposals and return to Commissioner Court with a recommendation on award.
Background:
Currently Webb County averages about 15.2 million Kwh per year usage. Current energy provider rate is $0.05086. the overall bundle cost is approximately $0.09094 (Includes fees from Public Utility Commission, AEP and City pass thru). Bring Webb County's estimted annual cost over $1.3 million.
The current contract with Reliant Energy will expire December 31, 2018. By securing competitive proposals from multiple retail energy providers Webb County can recognize savings by locking in lower rates with current market energy rates.
