Discussion and possible action to authorize the acceptance of the Department of Health and Human Services - Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Grant Award #1H79TI081929-01, for use by the 406th Judicial District Veterans Treatment Program in the amount of $2,000,000.00 to be distributed over five (5) years at $400,000.00 per year, for a budget period from May 31, 2019 through May 30, 2024, and authorizing the County Judge to execute all relevant documents, and any other matters incident thereto. No match is required. All required documents were sent to the Economic Development Department for review and were found to be in compliance with the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) policy. Issue: On December 12, 2018, the Commissioners' Court authorized the submission by the 406th Judicial District Veterans Treatment Program of a grant application for SAMHSA Funding Opportunity #TI081929-002, in an effort to enhance the services and support currently being provided to veterans involved in the justice system, and which may not be available without federal funding. Authorization from the Commissioners' Court is required in order to accept the award.
Solution: The Commissioners' Court authorizing the acceptance of the federal funds in order to continue to provide services and address the needs of the veteran participants.
Result: Veterans in Webb and surrounding counties will benefit from services that may not be available without these funds, pursuant to Texas Government Code §124.004.
